NRA BASIC PISTOL – PHASE 2
8-HOURS
COURSE FEE – $85

The NRA Basic Pistol course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

As of February 17, 2016 the NRA has implemented a new “blended” learning program for the Basic Pistol Discipline.

The most significant of these changes are in the following “bulleted” topics.

  • You must have completed the NRA Basic Pistol Phase 1 program offered as an e-learning program at the NRA’s website before attending this course.
  • Fees for the Phase 1 program are not included in the cost for this course and are collected separately by the NRA.

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is a two-part course consisting of an e-learning portion, Phase 1, to be completed online in your own time frame followed by a hands-on practical portion, Phase 2, conducted in a classroom and at a live-fire range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA-Certified Instructor.

The course is intended for all law abiding adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.  Phase 1 must be completed in order to successfully enroll in the Phase 2 portion of the course. Some of the topics in the Phase 1 e-learning course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers  and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance.

The most significant of these changes are in the following “bulleted” topics.

  • You must have completed the NRA Basic Pistol Phase 1 program offered as an e-learning program at the NRA’s website before attending this course.

How to enroll in Phase 1:

When you enroll in the Phase 1 online course, you create a personal identification number (PIN). When you successfully complete the online Phase 1 course, printing your certificate activates that PIN. The activated PIN allows you to register for the instructor-led (Phase 2) class to complete the course.

  • Enroll into the Phase 1 program can be done at the NRA Online Training web page by clicking the following link: NRA BASIC PISTOL Phase 1.

This course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

During the instructor-led-training portion of the course, the instructor(s) will validate your comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling; loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions. The insturctor(s) will also conduct a final live fire shooting qualification at a local range.

Phase 2 of the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting class will review Phase 1 instruction, including:

  •    Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
  •    Ammunition Knowledge
  •    Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  •    Bench-rest and Two-handed Shooting
  •    Selecting and Maintaining a Pistol
  •    Practical shooting exercises are then conducted at a local range.
