BEGINNER

If you have never handled or fired a gun before consider yourself a beginner! Individuals whom are unsure of their skills and abilities are encouraged to participate in a beginner level course.

An Intermediate shooter is one who can safely handle and shoot their firearm but is ready to develop their marksmanship, holster skills, Maine Concealed Carry Permit, or earn basic NRA credentials.

If you have a solid working knowledge of your firearm, can safely work from a holster, and are ready to experience more in-depth skill specific training we would consider you an experienced participant.

INTRO TO GUN SAFETY : LEARN MORE
This 2-hour, classroom only, program is designed for the novice firearms enthusiast interested in starting off right with gun safety. Participants will learn about the different types of firearms, how ammunition works, and essential firearms safety rules as well as how to safely handle, store and transport firearms. Information covered also includes home safety habits for families with children or visiting guests and more.

INTRO TO HANDGUN : LEARN MORE
The goal of this class is to provide essential gun safety skills, range etiquette, terminology and basic shooting skills to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience at the range.

BASIC HANDGUN : LEARN MORE
A comprehensive class throughly covering safety, marksmanship, handling & manipulation skills, malfunction clearing and reload techniques.

HANDGUN CLEANING 101 : LEARN MORE
In this hands-on 2-hour workshop our resident gunsmith guides students through the safety protocol, basic field strip and cleaning process of regular handgun maintenance. Protect your investment by learning how to properly care and store your handgun between uses. Concealed carriers, when was the last time your carry gun got a thorough cleaning? All modern handguns, both revolvers and semi-automatics, are welcome! No experience necessary.

HOWELL’S GUNSLINGER MATCH : LEARN MORE
Howell’s Gun Shop is pleased to present the Howell’s Gunslinger Match! An iron sights only pistol match designed to be safe, fun and challenging! Stages change weekly and can include: safe movement with barricades, strong and support hand shooting, steel plates, low light, moving targets and more! Put your skills to the test for either a personal best or to win the weekly Top Shot cash prize and some serious bragging rights!

HOLSTER SKILLS : LEARN MORE
Are you unsure about working with a holster? Do you feel uneasy about carrying concealed because you just don’t feel safe with a loaded firearm on your person? OR are you in need of a solid holster fundamentals tune-up? This 4-hour focused class thoroughly covers holster placement, selection and features, how to safely holster & reholster, and how to draw and engage the target safety and consistently.

LOW LIGHT HANDGUN : LEARN MORE
This course introduces participants to the multiple types of light options (handheld, weapons mounted) and techniques for the application of both. Wether the light source is emanating from you and your firearm or from different lighting conditions in your environment, learning how to make the best use of the light available is critical for self defense applications.

SHOOTING ON THE MOVE : LEARN MORE
Let’s get moving! This 4-hour course is all about movement! We will take a close look at proper technique and form to safely move and maneuver on the range and around barriers/barricades while accurately engaging the target. This is a dual, fast and slow, paced and fun program with applications in both competitive shooting sports and self or home defense.

MAINE CONCEALED CARRY : LEARN MORE
This is 3.5 hour class will cover the various rules to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Maine. A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the the Maine Concealed Carry Application process.

MAINE CONCEALED CARRY PLUS+ : LEARN MORE
A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Participants will learn critical Maine Law, conduct a safe gun handling and shooting exercise AND complete the Stop The Bleed certificate program.

NRA BASIC PISTOL : LEARN MORE
RECOGNIZED BY MOST OF THE NATION for Concealed Carry Permit application! The NRA Basic Pistol program is the ONLY nationally recognized program for firearms safety training. Most, but not all, states will accept a certificate of completion from an NRA Basic Pistol class for resident or non-resident application for concealed carry permit.

LADIES ONLY INTRO TO HANDGUN : LEARN MORE
Howell’s Intro to Handgun is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper range use of handguns. This 2.5-hour class is a great first step for new shooters looking to become safe and responsible gun owners. The goal of this class is to provide essential gun safety skills, range etiquette, terminology and basic shooting skills to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience at the range. Taught by Howell’s certified and friendly instructor team, this is the class we wish WE had had the first time we went shooting!

LADIES NIGHT : LEARN MORE

Join a group of like-minded ladies at the range for an evening of supervised and guided practice with Howell’s all female, nationally recognized, certified instructors. Take your skills to the next level with some one-on-one coaching and drills to meet your interests and goals. Our team is ready to meet you where you are and help you make progress in marksmanship, manipulations, speed, distance and more.

A Girl & A Gun – National Women’s Shooting League – Howell’s Chapter : LEARN MORE
A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) is a shooting club established by women shooters for women shooters. AG & AG events are intended to be fun, social gatherings where women can come together for support, encouragement, ask questions in a safe and nonjudgmental environment, improve on their marksmanship, and bond together in the shooting community.

YOUTH RIMFIRE RIFLE : LEARN MORE
Howell’s Youth Rimfire Rifle 5.5 hour course is an instructional course for beginner youth shooters designed to provide safe, responsible and nurturing instruction in proper gun handling and marksmanship. Child and Mentor (Parent or Guardian) paired teams learn together the basic skills, knowledge and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of .22 LR rimfire rifles in target shooting. 

J.O.A.D. : LEARN MORE
Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is a program of USA Archery that teaches archery to young people, provides great opportunities for awarding achievement, and helps archers to enjoy the sport recreationally or progress to the excitement of competition!

The NRA Basic Rifle Course is designed to teach the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a Rifle safely. The goal of the Basic Rifle course familiarize you with the correct operation and maintenance all types of Rifles, along with teaching you how to handle and shoot them safely.

NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER (RSO) : LEARN MORE
The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. The nine-hour course consists of classroom time and practical exercises conducted on a range.

NRA CHEIF RANGE SAFETY OFFICER (CRSO) : LEARN MORE
This 9-hour class includes standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings. Students must demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises and complete an open book exam. Once the course is completed the RSO will be upgraded to a NRA Chief Range Safety Officer.
