HOWELL’S NEW SHOOTER PROGRAM
Howell’s New Shooters Program walks the new firearms enthusiast/owner through a four phase program from safety and first shots, basic marksmanship, the where/when/why and how of reloads to managing malfunctions with confidence.
Order of program is suggested but not required!

LADIES ONLY NEW SHOOTER FIRST SHOTS
Howell’s New Shooters class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper range use of handguns. This 3-hour class is a great first step for new shooters looking to become safe and responsible gun owners.
STEP 2 : HANDGUN ESSENTIALS
Establish essential handgun skills necessary to become a safe handgun owner and marksman. This class thoroughly covers handgun safety awareness, the basics of handgun mechanics, safe handling techniques, and the fundamentals of stance, grip, sight picture and alignment, malfunctions and more.
STEP 3: BEYOND BASICS
An ideal class for newer shooters looking to learn critical holster skills or a refresher for more experienced shooters, competitors or those pursuing concealed carry. This class thoroughly covers safe and efficient holster skills, moving and shooting, shooting while moving and an introduction to low light shooting.
STEP 4 : DEFENSIVE HANDGUN
Defensive Handgun is an Intermediate Handgun for Self Defense taught by Tatiana Whitlock across the USA that has you moving, shooting and problem solving. Learn the essentials of non-standard positional shooting, critical movement skills, engaging from a seated position, and partner drills. Emphasis is on drills simulating real-world scenarios, functional situational awareness and communication skills.
NRA BASIC PISTOL
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is the best way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting! The course is the first steps for you to obtain the proper certification for your concealed carry permit in some states.
INTRO TO PISTOL OPTICS
There is a learning curve to adapting to a new sighting system but the juice is worth the squeeze! Join us for this three-hour workshop where we work on techniques to help master the “dot”!
HANDGUN ACCURACY
Hone your pistol accuracy skills and take your marksmanship to a higher level in this 8-hour course. This class aims to develop the core physical, visual, and mental skills that produce consistent accuracy on target.
CONCEALED CARRY
MAINE CONCEALED CARRY
This class covers the various rules to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Maine. A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Participants must come with a safe and working knowledge of their firearm and safe holster skills. This is NOT a basic pistol or holster skills course.
CONCEALED CARRY BASICS
What comes after you’ve made the decision to carry concealed? Attaining the paper permit alone is NOT enough to prepare you for the everyday logistics, and skills needed to carry safely and responsibly. Take control of your personal safety and learn how to manage a firearm for daily concealed carry and self-defense.

SABRE’s Civilian Safety Awareness Program one-day class can help you learn how identify threatening behaviors and be better prepared to escape dangerous situations safely.
RIFLE
AR15 NEW SHOOTER
Howell’s AR15 New Shooters class provides a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper range of use of AR15 rifles. This 3-hour class is a significant first step for new shooters looking to become safe and responsible gun owners.
AR15 ESSENTIALS
This 8-hour class is an ideal program for the new and intermediate level AR15 shooter. A program developed specifically for new rifle owners to learn how to confidently handle, control and successfully shoot an AR15 style rifle. Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) are welcome in this class! We will thoroughly cover essential skill sets including safety, basic field stripping and cleaning, load & make-ready procedure, range safe ready position, sling set up and utilization and more as time permits. Come prepared to learn, laugh and make some noise!
INSTRUCTOR & RSO CREDENTIALS
NRA RSO
NRA Range Safety Officer Certification (RSO). NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
NRA PISTOL INSTRUCTOR
This Course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination.
NRA CRSO
NRA Certified RSO’s looking to become a Chief RSO must take a CRSO course put on by a Training Counselor who holds the Chief RSO rating. This 9-hour class includes standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings.

A GIRL & A GUN Gray, ME Chapter
A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) is a shooting club established by women shooters for women shooters. AG & AG events are intended to be fun, social gatherings where women can come together for support, encouragement, ask questions in a safe and nonjudgmental environment, improve on their marksmanship, and bond together in the shooting community.
