SUMMARY:2024 Gunslinger State Championship
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US FOR THE 2024 Gunslinger State Championship!\n9am – 4pm \n\nHowell’s pistol match is designed to be safe\, fun and challenging! Stages change weekly and can include: safe movement with barricades\, strong and support hand shooting\, steel plates\, low light\, moving targets\, bowling pin shoots\, accuracy exercises\, speed exercises and more! Put your skills to the test! \nHowell’s Gunslinger Match is open to the not-so-beginner shooter who can safely handle and shoot their handgun. While we don’t recommend this event as your very first shooting experience we do encourage shooters of all skill levels to come and experience this friendly competition. \nFEE: $15\n \n\nWalk-ins welcome! This is NOT a pre-registration event. Roster of shooters is based on a first come first serve basis.\nOur matches are designed to take roughly 5-10 minutes for each shooter. Each participant shoots the match twice in a row\, their top score out of the two is entered into the competitor pool.\n\nEQUIPMENT: \n\nEye & Hearing Protection\nRange appropriate attire\nCenterfire pistol\n50 Rounds of factory FMJ ball ammo\nMinimum of 3 magazines (To save time for shooting we strongly recommend coming with 3 mags preloaded with 8 rounds each.)\nMatch may or may not involve shooting on the move: Gun belt\, Mag Pouches\, Strong side outside the waistband (OWB) holster. (For safety reasons bra holsters\, soft side collapsible holsters\, cross draw\, serpa\, ankle\, off body and behind-the-back posters are NOT allowed during live-fire portion of course. Contact us with questions.)\nA good attitude!\n\nSAFETY:  \n\nAll participants must sign in on the group event waiver.\nProfessional behavior is expected at all times.\nWe run a COLD range. This means – all guns are unloaded and cased until it is your designated time to load and make ready per the RSO’s direction.\nSafety rules and stage protocol will be briefed prior to the match and strictly enforced.\nAll shooting is conducted under the supervision of Howell’s certified Range Safety Officers and staff.\n\nRULES & ETIQUETTE: \n\nOrder of waiver sign in represents order of shooters.\nEach shooter will shoot match twice per event.\nParticipants are expected to help tape or reset targets between shooters.\nThere is NO filming of other shooters without their expressed permission.\n\nSCORING: \n\nHowell’s prefers to keep our scoring simple: Any shot that breaks the line is considered a hit and scored according to the target in use.\nHowell’s RSO in charge has the final say on the scoring.\nTie breakers are a very real possibility and a bullseye shoot off will determine the winner.\nAll scores will be logged.

A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Topics will include Range Rules\, Safe Handling Rules\, Safe Storage & Transportation\, Personal Responsibility and Liability\, Firearm Selection Criteria\, Modifications/Accessories\, Carry Gear vs Range Gear\, Ammunition Selection\, mindset\,  use of force\, the disparity of force\, castle doctrine\, stand your ground\, talking to the police\, and continuing education. \nParticipants are expected to know how to operate a semiautomatic handgun\, or a revolver if supplying their own gun\, for the shooting qualification. To successfully pass this class participants must be able to demonstrate basic handgun skills including loading and making ready\, following range commands through two 5-round courses of fire (for a total of 10 rounds)\, and safely clear and bench their gun. Participants must be able to demonstrate the four rules of gun safety at all times through the entire course of fire. DESCRIPTION:MAINE CONCEALED CARRY\nDuration Of 3 Hours\nCourse Fee $150\n\nMembership: Discounts Apply!\nPrerequisite: This is NOT a basic pistol or holster skills course. Participants are encouraged to first take a private lesson or a new shooter course if they have not shot a gun before or if they are returning to shooting from a long hiatus. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION\nThis is a 3-hour class covers the various rules to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Maine. A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Topics will include Range Rules\, Safe Handling Rules\, Safe Storage & Transportation\, Personal Responsibility and Liability\, Firearm Selection Criteria\, Modifications/Accessories\, Carry Gear vs Range Gear\, Ammunition Selection\, mindset\,  use of force\, the disparity of force\, castle doctrine\, stand your ground\, talking to the police\, and continuing education. \nParticipants are expected to know how to operate a semiautomatic handgun\, or a revolver if supplying their own gun\, for the shooting qualification. To successfully pass this class participants must be able to demonstrate basic handgun skills including loading and making ready\, following range commands through two 5-round courses of fire (for a total of 10 rounds)\, and safely clear and bench their gun. Participants must be able to demonstrate the four rules of gun safety at all times through the entire course of fire. If you feel these are not a skill sets you are able to demonstrate at this time we encourage you to first take a Private Lesson or enroll in a New Shooter course. \nREQUIRED EQUIPMENT \n\nEye & ear protection\nClosed-toe shoes\nHigh collared shirt\nBrimmed ball caps recommended\nNotebook & Pen\nAll firearms and ammunition for the live fire qualification are provided by Howell’s.\n*If you would like to bring your own firearm you are welcome to do so. You are required to bring 10 rounds of factory FMJ ball ammunition\, in your handgun caliber of choice\, to shoot the final live fire qualification.\n\nPASS or CLASS: A participant that completes the classroom session and can safely demonstrate gun safety and safely shoot the qualification with a total of 10 rounds on target will PASS this class and a certificate of completion will be issued. In the event that a participant completes the classroom session but does not meet the safety or basic gun handling skills requirements\, the participant will receive a CLASS recommendation and the certificate will be deferred until training is completed to successfully reshoot and pass the qual. It is up to the participant that receives a CLASS recommendation to book either a private lesson or enroll in a New Shooter program of their choice in order to have an opportunity to receive the necessary training to successfully reshoot the qual. Participants are encouraged to first take a private lesson or a new shooter course if they have not shot a gun before or if they are returning to shooting from a long hiatus. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION\nThis is a 3-hour class covers the various rules to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Maine. A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Topics will include Range Rules\, Safe Handling Rules\, Safe Storage & Transportation\, Personal Responsibility and Liability\, Firearm Selection Criteria\, Modifications/Accessories\, Carry Gear vs Range Gear\, Ammunition Selection\, mindset\,  use of force\, the disparity of force\, castle doctrine\, stand your ground\, talking to the police\, and continuing education. \nParticipants are expected to know how to operate a semiautomatic handgun\, or a revolver if supplying their own gun\, for the shooting qualification. To successfully pass this class participants must be able to demonstrate basic handgun skills including loading and making ready\, following range commands through two 5-round courses of fire (for a total of 10 rounds)\, and safely clear and bench their gun. Participants must be able to demonstrate the four rules of gun safety at all times through the entire course of fire. If you feel these are not a skill sets you are able to demonstrate at this time we encourage you to first take a Private Lesson or enroll in a New Shooter course. \nREQUIRED EQUIPMENT \n\nEye & ear protection\nClosed-toe shoes\nHigh collared shirt\nBrimmed ball caps recommended\nNotebook & Pen\nAll firearms and ammunition for the live fire qualification are provided by Howell’s.\n*If you would like to bring your own firearm you are welcome to do so. You are required to bring 10 rounds of factory FMJ ball ammunition\, in your handgun caliber of choice\, to shoot the final live fire qualification.\n\nPASS or CLASS: A participant that completes the classroom session and can safely demonstrate gun safety and safely shoot the qualification with a total of 10 rounds on target will PASS this class and a certificate of completion will be issued. In the event that a participant completes the classroom session but does not meet the safety or basic gun handling skills requirements\, the participant will receive a CLASS recommendation and the certificate will be deferred until training is completed to successfully reshoot and pass the qual. It is up to the participant that receives a CLASS recommendation to book either a private lesson or enroll in a New Shooter program of their choice in order to have an opportunity to receive the necessary training to successfully reshoot the qual. DESCRIPTION:Howell’s Gun Shop is pleased to present the Howell’s Gunslinger Match!  \nHowell’s pistol match is designed to be safe\, fun and challenging! Stages change weekly and can include: safe movement with barricades\, strong and support hand shooting\, steel plates\, low light\, moving targets\, bowling pin shoots\, accuracy exercises\, speed exercises and more! Put your skills to the test! \nHowell’s Gunslinger Match is open to the not-so-beginner shooter who can safely handle and shoot their handgun. While we don’t recommend this event as your very first shooting experience we do encourage shooters of all skill levels to come and experience this friendly competition. \nFEE: $15\nEVENTS HELD WEEKLY! Thursdays\, 2:00pm – 5:30pm \n\nWalk-ins welcome! This is NOT a pre-registration event. Roster of shooters is based on a first come first serve basis.\nOur matches are designed to take roughly 5-10 minutes for each shooter. Each participant shoots the match twice in a row\, their top score out of the two is entered into the competitor pool.\n\nEQUIPMENT: \n\nEye & Hearing Protection\nRange appropriate attire\nCenterfire pistol\n50 Rounds of factory FMJ ball ammo\nMinimum of 3 magazines (To save time for shooting we strongly recommend coming with 3 mags preloaded with 8 rounds each.)\nMatch may or may not involve shooting on the move: Gun belt\, Mag Pouches\, Strong side outside the waistband (OWB) holster. (For safety reasons bra holsters\, soft side collapsible holsters\, cross draw\, serpa\, ankle\, off body and behind-the-back posters are NOT allowed during live-fire portion of course. Contact us with questions.)\nA good attitude!\n\nSAFETY:  \n\nAll participants must sign in on the group event waiver.\nProfessional behavior is expected at all times.\nWe run a COLD range. This means – all guns are unloaded and cased until it is your designated time to load and make ready per the RSO’s direction. \nSafety rules and stage protocol will be briefed prior to the match and strictly enforced. \nAll shooting is conducted under the supervision of Howell’s certified Range Safety Officers and staff.\n\nRULES & ETIQUETTE: \n\nOrder of waiver sign in represents order of shooters.\nEach shooter will shoot match twice per event. \nParticipants are expected to help tape or reset targets between shooters.\nThere is NO filming of other shooters without their expressed permission.\n\nSCORING: \n\nHowell’s prefers to keep our scoring simple: Any shot that breaks the line is considered a hit and scored according to the target in use. \nHowell’s RSO in charge has the final say on the scoring. \nTie breakers are a very real possibility and a bullseye shoot off will determine the winner.\nAll scores will be logged.

DESCRIPTION:Howell’s is pleased to host Maine Archery Association Indoor Shooter of the Year!\nThe Maine Archery Association is an organization dedicated to promoting all forms of archery – recreational\, tournament\, and hunting in the State of Maine. We are a chartered state organization of the National Field Archery Association. Annually we host NFAA sectional tournaments and State Championships for both indoor target and outdoor field. We also hold NFAA “Shooter of the Year” tournaments every Sunday from October through March of each year with different venues throughout the state hosting each week. DESCRIPTION:Maine Concealed Carry Permit Course: Your Path to Responsible\, Confident Carry \nReady to take the next step in your firearm journey? Our 3-hour Concealed Carry Permit course is designed for intermediate shooters who are serious about carrying a concealed firearm responsibly in the state of Maine. This class provides all the essential knowledge and a certificate needed for your Maine Concealed Carry Application. \nYou’ll dive deep into key topics\, including: \n\nMaine’s concealed carry laws and legal responsibilities\nSafe storage\, transportation\, and handling of your firearm\nThe right firearm\, ammunition\, and gear for concealed carry\nLegal concepts like the use of force\, castle doctrine\, and stand your ground\nInteracting with law enforcement\nAnd more\, including mindset\, personal responsibility\, and continuing education\n\nThis course goes beyond the basics\, empowering you to carry with confidence and understand the serious responsibilities that come with concealed carry. \nREQUIRED EQUIPMENT \n\nEye & ear protection\nClosed-toe shoes\nHigh collared shirt\nBrimmed ball caps recommended\nNotebook & Pen\nAll firearms and ammunition for the live fire qualification are provided by Howell’s.\n*If you would like to bring your own firearm you are welcome to do so. You are required to bring 10 rounds of factory FMJ ball ammunition\, in your handgun caliber of choice\, to shoot the final live fire qualification.\n\nPASS or CLASS: What You Need to Know \nTo pass this class\, participants must complete the classroom session and demonstrate basic range\, gun handling and shooting safety skills in our live-fire qualification. Those who pass will receive a certificate of completion. If a participant finishes the classroom session but does not meet the safety or basic gun handling requirements\, they will receive a CLASS recommendation instead of a certificate. The certificate will be deferred until the participant completes additional training\, such as a private lesson or New Shooter program\, and successfully retakes the qualification. Once the qualification is passed\, Howells will issue the Maine Concealed Carry certificate. \nWhat to Expect: Participants must already be familiar with operating a semi-automatic handgun or revolver for the qualification test. You’ll demonstrate key skills such as safe loading\, following range commands\, and completing two 5-round courses of fire. Safety is our top priority—proficiency in gun safety and handling is required at all times during the course. \nNot sure you’re ready? We recommend brushing up with a Private Lesson or our New Shooter course to ensure you’re prepared for this next level. \n  \nEVENT REGISTRATION TERMS & CONDITIONS\nCourse Transfer: With 72-hour advance notice of the event date we will issue a unique re-registration code for course transfers.\nCancellation Refund: Refunds for 50% balance of event fee\, if no transfer is possible\, are issued in the form of store gift cards only but ONLY if we are notified of the cancelation up to 72 hours in advance of the event date.\nNo-Call/No-Show: Participants who do not show to the event without prior 72-hour notice forfeit their total registration fees.\nSame Day Cancelations: Same day cancelations are non-refundable as spots in classes are quick to fill and we will be unable to resell that spot in the event or give an individual on a waitlist adequate time to purchase that spot.
