Participants are encouraged to first take a private lesson or a new shooter course if they have not shot a gun before or if they are returning to shooting from a long hiatus. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION\nThis is a 3-hour class covers the various rules to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Maine. A certificate from the successful completion of this class is applicable to use in the Maine Concealed Carry Application process. Topics will include Range Rules\, Safe Handling Rules\, Safe Storage & Transportation\, Personal Responsibility and Liability\, Firearm Selection Criteria\, Modifications/Accessories\, Carry Gear vs Range Gear\, Ammunition Selection\, mindset\,  use of force\, the disparity of force\, castle doctrine\, stand your ground\, talking to the police\, and continuing education. \nParticipants are expected to know how to operate a semiautomatic handgun\, or a revolver if supplying their own gun\, for the shooting qualification. To successfully pass this class participants must be able to demonstrate basic handgun skills including loading and making ready\, following range commands through two 5-round courses of fire (for a total of 10 rounds)\, and safely clear and bench their gun. Participants must be able to demonstrate the four rules of gun safety at all times through the entire course of fire. If you feel these are not a skill sets you are able to demonstrate at this time we encourage you to first take a Private Lesson or enroll in a New Shooter course. \nREQUIRED EQUIPMENT \n\nEye & ear protection\nClosed-toe shoes\nHigh collared shirt\nBrimmed ball caps recommended\nNotebook & Pen\nAll firearms and ammunition for the live fire qualification are provided by Howell’s.\n*If you would like to bring your own firearm you are welcome to do so. Defensive Handgun is an Intermediate Handgun for Self Defense that has you moving\, shooting\, and problem-solving. Learn the essentials of non-standard positional shooting (Yoga with Guns!)\, critical movement skills\, engaging from a seated position\, and partner drills. Emphasis is towards drills and scenarios that simulate having children or family as part of a deadly force encounter and how to manage them to keep them safe. This class is a fast-paced yet detail-rich program. SUMMARY:CANCELED - Youth Safety League
DESCRIPTION:Howell’s Youth Safety League is a monthly 60 minute lesson and range time for students 10 to 18 designed to instill firearm safety\, education and marksmanship skills. This program is an opportunity for our young students to learn with others\, make friends\, build character\, and continue the tradition of shooting sports and safety practices. This league is open to all students whom have taken a private lesson at Howell’s within one calendar year where the basics of range safety and etiquette are taught on a one-on-one basis. Students must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian over the age of 21 years old. \nMontly meetings focus on safety and a themed lesson on marksmanship and precision. Participants then transition to the range to shoot the NRA Pistol Qualification and NRA Rifle Qualification exercises and progress through the series at their own pace. Individual coaching\, safety monitors (RSO’s) are present to support each participant and their accompanying parent/guardian in the range at all times. \nRequired Equipment \n\n.22lr\, 380 or 9mm Semi Automatic handguns provided\nParticipants are welcome to bring their own .22lr\, 380 or 9mm Semi Automatic handguns to work with during class\n100 to 150 rounds of caliber appropriate FMJ Ball ammunition estimated per class\nAmmunition can be purchased at check-in if utilizing Howell’s equipment\nHowell’s equipment requires ammunition purchase from Howell’s (nothing brought in from home please.)\nEye protection for both participant and guardian (available for purchase at check-in)\nHearing protection for both participant and guardian (available for purchase at check-in)\nRange appropriate attire for both participant and parent/guardian\nClosed toe shoes for both participant and guardian\nA good attitude and an open mind 🙂\n\n\n\nHOWELL’S TERMS – CLASS CANCELLATIONS \nNo Call/No Show: All no-call/no-show participants will be non-refundable not eligible for store credit or transfer. \nLate Arrival: Arriving more than 15 minutes after class start time is considered no-call/no-show. \nStudent Cancelation: Refunds for 100% balance of event fee\, if no transfer is possible\, are issued ONLY if we are notified of the cancellation more than 48 hours in advance of the event date. Notifications received within 48 hours of the event date are eligible for 50% refund or 50% tuition value applied towards an upcoming course within one calendar year. \nHowell’s Cancelation: Should Howell’s need to cancel a class students will be contacted via email\, phone and/or text with as much notice as possible. All students will be provided an option to transfer into an upcoming event of their choosing or receive a full refund. \nStudent Transfer: One transfer is permitted per original transaction\, per customer\, within the terms outlined above\, and must be conducted within a calendar year of the original booking date. \nGuest Instructors: There are no refunds or transfers on guest instructor classes including Defensive Handgun through Howell’s Gun Shop. No Exceptions. When a student enrolls for a hosted class\, the student accepts the terms of the company (instructor) they are registering through.
