Mark your calendars, load your mags, and bring your A-game — Howell’s 2025 Gunslinger State Championship is set for Saturday, October 18th, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM!

This annual pistol match is more than just another day on the range — it’s a safe, exciting, and skill-building competition designed to challenge you, push your shooting ability, and deliver a whole lot of fun in the process. Whether you’re looking to test your marksmanship, improve your speed, or just soak up the friendly, competitive vibe, this is the event you don’t want to miss.

What to Expect

The Gunslinger State Championship isn’t your typical static target shoot — it’s an action-packed, dynamic pistol match with stages that keep you thinking and moving. Our match designers love to keep things fresh and challenging, and stages may include:

• Safe movement with barricades

• Strong- and support-hand shooting

• Steel plate challenges

• Moving targets & low-light scenarios

• Bowling pin shoots

• Accuracy & speed drills

Each shooter will run the match twice in a row, with their best score entered into the competition pool. At the end of the day, we’ll award Class Trophies and crown the High Overall (HOA) Champion!

Who Can Compete

This event is perfect for the not-so-beginner shooter — someone who can safely handle, draw, and shoot their handgun.
If you’re confident in your firearm safety skills and want to step into competition, this is your chance to join an encouraging, supportive, and non-intimidating competitive environment.

If you’re brand new to shooting, we recommend taking one of our handgun fundamentals or skill-building classes first, but if you’re comfortable on the line, come join the fun!

Match Details

• Date: Saturday, October 18th, 2025

• Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Fee: $15 per shooter

• Registration: Walk-ins welcome! (First come, first served.)

Each shooter takes 5–10 minutes per run, and you’ll shoot the course twice — your best score counts. Simple, fair, and a blast for everyone.

Gear Up & Be Ready

Here’s what you’ll need to compete:

• Centerfire pistol & 50 rounds of factory FMJ ball ammo

• Minimum of 3 magazines (preloaded with 8 rounds each saves time)

• Strong side OWB holster (no bra, ankle, cross-draw, Serpa, soft side, or off-body holsters)

• Gun belt & mag pouches

• Eye & ear protection

• Range-appropriate attire

• A great attitude & readiness to reset/tape targets between shooters!

Safety is our top priority. Howell’s runs a COLD range — all firearms remain unloaded and cased until your time to shoot.
Certified Range Safety Officers oversee every stage, and all shooters will get a full safety and stage protocol briefing before stepping onto the line.
